Yes — you can get a doctor-reviewed medical certificate in Vilnius online today. A registered doctor assesses your case and issues a same-day PDF for €34.99, usable as supporting documentation with employers, universities, airlines, insurers and sports clubs. It is not an elektroninis nedarbingumo pažymėjimas: Lithuania's statutory sick-leave certificate is created in ESPBI IS by a doctor at a healthcare institution contracted with SODRA, and only it triggers employer-paid sick days and SODRA sickness benefit.

Medical Certificates in Vilnius: Who Needs Them?

Vilnius has become the Baltic region's financial back office, and its absence paperwork reflects that. Fintech is the single largest hiring sector in the capital, accounting for roughly a quarter of local job postings, and Danske Bank alone employs somewhere near 4,800 people in the city. Around them sit Nasdaq's technology centre, Moody's analytics teams, Western Union's regional operations and Thermo Fisher Scientific, alongside home-grown names like Vinted and Oxylabs. The largest private employers by headcount are still retailers — Maxima at over 11,000 and Iki at around 5,500 — where shift rosters, not office hours, decide when someone can see a doctor.

It is worth being exact about which document is which. Lithuania's statutory sick leave runs on the elektroninis nedarbingumo pažymėjimas: the treating doctor creates it in ESPBI IS, it is managed in the EPTS system and signed with the doctor's electronic signature, and the information then flows automatically to your employer and to SODRA. Only doctors at healthcare institutions holding a contract with a SODRA regional office can issue one. Your employer covers the first two days and SODRA pays 62.06% of insured income from day three. We are outside that system entirely — we cannot create, file or transmit that certificate, and nothing we issue triggers those payments.

What we do issue is a registered doctor's documented assessment, which is a genuinely different product with genuinely different uses. Employers who accept a doctor's note under their own internal policy will often take it for a short absence. Airlines and travel insurers ask for exactly this kind of dated statement. So do university faculties handling deferrals, insurers assessing claims, sports clubs registering players and consulates processing visa files. None of those involve SODRA, and for none of them does the state instrument apply.

Access to primary care in Lithuania is better than its neighbours' but distinctly uneven. The 2025 EU country health profile records that around 90% of people could see their family doctor within a week, and Lithuania has roughly 4.6 practising physicians per 1,000 residents — above the OECD average. The variation is the problem: waiting times in some municipalities routinely exceed the recommended seven days for primary care, and for outpatient specialist care at the end of 2024 more than half of patients waited over 30 days in several specialties. Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos, the Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine teaching hospital, employs over 5,300 staff including some 1,400 doctors — but it is a tertiary referral centre, not a source of routine notes.

Demand in Vilnius also follows the city's working rhythms. Financial and technology teams keep hours aligned to London and New York rather than to Lithuanian clinics; retail and hospitality run evenings and weekends; Vilnius Airport handles early departures. Students at Vilnius University and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University need deferral evidence in concentrated exam-session bursts. And a large international workforce needs documentation in English, for employers and insurers whose paperwork never passes through a Lithuanian system at all.

Fintech Capital of the Baltics

Fintech accounts for roughly a quarter of Vilnius job postings, with Danske Bank employing around 4,800 people and Nasdaq, Moody's and Western Union all running operations here.

Santaros Klinikos

The Vilnius University teaching hospital employs over 5,300 staff including some 1,400 doctors — a tertiary referral centre rather than a walk-in note service.

Uneven Waiting Times

Around 90% of Lithuanians see a family doctor within a week, but some municipalities routinely exceed the recommended seven days, and specialist waits often pass 30 days.

Vilnius University & Vilnius Tech

Deferral evidence arrives in concentrated exam-session bursts, and faculties expect a dated statement from a registered doctor.

International Workforce

English-language documentation matters for the capital's international staff and for employers and insurers outside Lithuania entirely.

All Certificate Types Available in Lithuania

Every certificate type is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Lithuania. Choose the one that matches your situation. If you're not sure which applies, the assessment will ask enough questions to route you correctly before you pay anything.

How It Works in Vilnius

  1. Complete assessment

3-5 minutes. Select your certificate type, confirm Lithuania as your country, and answer relevant health questions covering your condition, the dates you need covered, and any employer or institution details you'd like included. No payment yet. You're only charged if a certificate is issued.

  2. Doctor reviews your case

Reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Lithuania, generally within Eastern European business hours (9am-6pm EET/EEST, Monday to Friday). The doctor may request more information through the same portal, or in some cases advise that your situation needs an in-person examination rather than an online certificate.

  3. Receive your PDF

Delivered same day as a PDF, with a verification reference that an employer, school, or institution can scan to confirm authenticity directly, rather than relying on our word alone.

Who Accepts a Medical Certificate in Vilnius

A doctor's certificate is supporting documentation and acceptance is always the recipient's decision — ask first when the stakes are high. For Lithuanian statutory sick pay you need the elektroninis nedarbingumo pažymėjimas instead, from a doctor at a SODRA-contracted institution.

Universities

Faculties at Vilnius University and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University generally require a dated written statement from a registered doctor to support a deferral.

Finance & Technology Employers

Fintech, banking and shared-service offices commonly accept a doctor's note for short absences under their own internal policy.

Airlines & Travel Insurers

Carriers flying from Vilnius Airport and insurers handling cancellation claims typically want a dated doctor's statement — a private document with no state system involved.

Sports Clubs & Gyms

Amateur clubs, gyms and event organisers in the capital routinely ask for a doctor's fitness assessment before registration.

Foreign Employers & Consulates

An English-language doctor's statement is the usual format when the employer, insurer or consulate sits outside Lithuania.

General Medical Certificate€34.99€50-€120

Typical in-person visit costs are a general range and vary by clinic, city, and consultation type.

The gap between our pricing and a typical in-person visit generally reflects the difference between a walk-in appointment and an online assessment: you are paying for the doctor's review and the certificate itself, not a consultation room or receptionist time. For same-day documentation needed for travel, sport, or an employer, most people in this position choose a private route regardless of price, since the process does not depend on the next available appointment. This is not a claim that in-person care is unnecessary: for conditions that need a physical examination, a doctor may still advise seeing someone in person, and our assessment is designed to identify when that is the better route rather than issuing a certificate regardless.

Our Lithuania Medical Team

Every Lithuania certificate is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Lithuania. A certificate is only issued after a genuine assessment of your case, based on the health information you provide and, where needed, follow-up questions asked through the same portal.

If a certificate is not clinically appropriate, for example, if your case needs an in-person examination or further investigation, the doctor will decline to issue one and you receive a full, automatic refund. We do not operate on a pay-first, questions-later basis: no certificate is guaranteed simply because a request was submitted. As with any doctor-issued document, a doctor's registration can generally be verified through the relevant national channels, and every certificate we issue carries a reference number that resolves on an independent verification page, rather than asking anyone to take our word for it.

Registered practitioners, not a call centre.

Every doctor is independently verified against their national medical council before they see a single patient - including for patients in Vilnius.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is €34.99 flat, and that is the whole price — identical across all six certificate types we offer: Sick Leave, Sports Fitness, General Fitness, Fit to Fly, Return to Work and General Medical. There is no consultation fee on top, no delivery charge and no premium for a faster decision. If the reviewing doctor concludes they cannot issue a certificate for your case, you are not charged.

In most cases, yes. You complete an online assessment, a registered doctor reviews it, and if approved the signed PDF is emailed to you the same day — often within a couple of hours during ordinary Lithuanian working hours. Requests submitted late at night are usually decided the following morning. A complicated history can take longer, because the doctor may come back with follow-up questions before deciding.

Yes. Remote assessment by a registered doctor is ordinary clinical practice across the EU, and what matters is that a real, registered clinician reviews your case and exercises judgement — which includes the freedom to say no. If your symptoms need to be examined physically, the doctor will tell you to see a clinician in person in Vilnius rather than issuing something the history does not support.

No. The elektroninis nedarbingumo pažymėjimas is created by the treating doctor in ESPBI IS, managed in EPTS, signed with that doctor's electronic signature, and transmitted automatically to your employer and SODRA. Only doctors at healthcare institutions contracted with a SODRA regional office can issue one. We have no access to those systems and cannot file anything in them, so nothing we issue will start your two employer-paid days or your SODRA benefit from day three.

They are entitled to set their own internal evidence policy, so the honest step is to ask HR before you buy. Many Vilnius employers, particularly in finance and technology, accept a doctor's note for a short absence; others insist on the electronic certificate, and where statutory sick pay is involved they are right to. Our certificate is real supporting documentation — but it is not a substitute for the state instrument, and we will not suggest otherwise.

It records that a registered doctor assessed your case and, in their clinical judgement, you were unfit for work across a stated period — a dated, signed statement, for €34.99. Many employers accept that for a short absence under their own policy, and it is often the right document for a university, an insurer or a foreign employer. What it does not do is enter the Lithuanian system, so it triggers no employer-paid days and no SODRA benefit.

Not your place in that queue. Lithuanian specialist waiting lists are managed inside the state system, and at the end of 2024 more than half of patients waited over 30 days in several specialties — nothing we issue affects that. What a certificate can do is give you a dated written record that a registered doctor has assessed your current condition, which is often what an employer, university or insurer needs while you wait for the appointment itself.

The opposite — it is one of the reasons the service exists. The assessment form is open around the clock, so you can submit whenever your shift allows rather than trying to book a clinic slot in the middle of your working day. Cases submitted overnight are usually reviewed the next morning; cases submitted in Lithuanian working hours are often decided within a couple of hours.

Certificates are issued in English as a PDF, signed by the reviewing doctor and carrying a verification reference code so the recipient can confirm the document is genuine rather than trusting a forwarded email. English is generally straightforward for Vilnius's international employers and for insurers abroad. A Lithuanian state body or a smaller local employer may want a Lithuanian translation, so ask what format they expect before you submit it.

You are not charged. The clinical judgement is genuine, which means it can go against the request — most commonly when symptoms need physical examination, when the history does not support the certificate type asked for, or when the request is to backdate cover for a period with no clinical basis. The doctor will normally explain what to do instead, which for anything continuing means seeing a doctor in Vilnius in person.
