All Certificate Types Available in Spain

Every certificate type is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Spain. Choose the one that matches your situation, and see the legal snapshot above if what you actually need is the formal parte de baja for a longer absence.

How It Works in Spain

  1. Complete assessment

3-5 minutes. Select your certificate type, confirm Spain as your country, and answer relevant health questions in detail so the reviewing doctor has what they need to make a genuine clinical judgment. No payment is taken at this stage.

  2. A doctor registered to assess Spain cases reviews

Your answers are reviewed against Spanish requirements during business hours, Monday-Friday. The doctor may come back to you for more information before deciding, and will only proceed with a certificate if it is clinically appropriate to do so.

  3. Receive your PDF

Once approved, your certificate is emailed the same day for most requests, showing the reviewing doctor's credentials and a verification reference that lets the recipient confirm the document is genuine.

Who Accepts These Certificates in Spain

Acceptance depends on what the certificate is being used for. For a short absence, a general medical need, or a fitness/travel requirement, our certificates are designed to be exactly what's being asked for. For statutory sick pay beyond 3 days specifically, the recipient will be expecting the formal parte de baja, which has to come from the public system rather than from us. We're upfront about that distinction below.

Employers

Accepted for short absences generally manageable in many cases without a formal parte de baja, and for our general medical or return-to-work certificates supporting an HR file. The formal parte de baja for statutory sick pay beyond 3 days must still come from a Seguridad Social doctor or an authorised equivalent. We are clear about this distinction with every certificate we issue.

Schools & universities

Accepted for course-related documentation such as mitigating-circumstances requests, and for school or university sports medical clearance ahead of a competitive fixture or season.

Sports clubs

Many federación-affiliated clubs commonly request medical clearance for competitive participants before registration or a grading. Our sports fitness certificate is designed to meet this kind of request.

Airlines

Fit-to-fly certificates are accepted by airlines requiring medical clearance for travel after surgery, illness, or during later pregnancy, before they will allow a passenger to board.

Insurers

General medical certificates accepted for related insurance claims and supporting documentation, where the insurer requires confirmation of a diagnosis, condition, or fitness assessment.

GetMedicalCertificate in Spain's Major Cities

Our service is fully online and available across Spain, wherever you are based, from mainland cities to the islands. Because every certificate is issued as a PDF and verified by reference number rather than handed over in person, your location has no bearing on how quickly a doctor can review your case. These are the cities we see the most requests from.

€40-70 is a typical range reported for a private, in-person doctor consultation in Spain and varies by clinic, location, and consultation type. It doesn't include the time cost of travelling to and from an appointment, or the wait for a slot to become available, both of which our online review is designed to remove without cutting corners on the actual clinical assessment.

How This Compares to a Typical In-Person Doctor Visit in Spain

There's no single well-known local online-only service we can meaningfully compare ourselves to in Spain, so here's how we compare to the alternative most people actually consider: a typical private, in-person doctor visit. A private consultation in Spain typically costs around €40-70 depending on the clinic, the location, and whether it's a general or specialist appointment, on top of travel time and the need to find an available appointment slot that fits around work or other commitments. Our certificates start at €39.99, are reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Spain after a genuine online assessment of your case, and are typically delivered the same day as a PDF with a verification reference the recipient can use to confirm authenticity, rather than a paper document that's easily lost or hard to verify. We don't shortcut the clinical review to get there. Every request is genuinely assessed on its own facts, and if the doctor decides they cannot issue your certificate, you receive a full refund rather than a part-refund or store credit. What we can't do, by design and by Spanish law, is issue the formal Seguridad Social parte de baja for statutory sick pay beyond 3 days; that document has to come from a doctor within the public health system or an authorised equivalent, never from a private online-only provider, no matter how the request is priced or how quickly it's turned around.

Our Medical Team for Spain

Every Spain certificate is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Spain. A clinician will only issue a certificate after genuinely assessing your case and if it is clinically appropriate to do so. If it isn't, you receive a full refund rather than a certificate you can't rely on. We do not name individual clinicians on this page because the specific doctor assigned to review your case depends on availability and certificate type at the time you submit your assessment; your certificate itself shows the reviewing doctor's name and credentials once issued, so the recipient can see exactly who assessed your case. No certificate is generated automatically or without a doctor's genuine review, whatever the certificate type.

Registered practitioners, not a call centre.

Every doctor is independently verified against their national medical council before they see a single patient - including across Spain.

Spain Medical Certificate FAQ

In many cases, absences of up to 3 days can generally be self-managed without a formal parte de baja, though this can vary by employer policy, sector agreement, and individual circumstances. Some workplaces are stricter than others about what they expect to see, even within that short window. From more than 3 days, a parte de baja is generally required, and the related incapacidad temporal status begins once it's issued. Always check the specifics with your employer or with Seguridad Social/INSS for your particular situation rather than assuming the general rule applies exactly as described here.

Only a doctor within Spain's public health system (Seguridad Social) or an authorised equivalent, such as a doctor working for a mutua colaboradora con la Seguridad Social where the employer is affiliated with one, can legally issue a parte de baja. This is a public-system function reserved by Real Decreto 625/2014 and cannot be issued by a private telehealth-only service, including ours, no matter how the assessment is carried out.

Yes. After a genuine online assessment by a doctor registered to assess cases in Spain, we can issue a general medical certificate for purposes like these. This is a separate document type from the formal Seguridad Social parte de baja, and it does not replace the parte de baja for statutory sick-pay purposes. The two serve different needs and are governed differently.

Yes, for the purposes it's designed for: insurance, visa, education, sport, travel, and general medical documentation, where the institution is asking for confirmation of a condition, clearance, or fitness assessment rather than the specific statutory parte de baja. It is not a substitute for the formal parte de baja in cases where that particular document is what's actually required.

Our sick leave / general medical certificate costs €39.99, which includes the doctor's review, your PDF certificate with certificate verification, and same-day delivery for most approved requests, with no extra add-on fees. This compares to typically €40-70 for a private, in-person consultation in Spain, before accounting for travel time or the wait for an available appointment.

Many federación-affiliated clubs commonly request medical clearance for competitive participants before registration, a grading, or the start of a season. Our sports fitness certificate is designed to meet this kind of requirement and is reviewed against the sport and level of activity you describe.

Yes. We comply with RGPD, the Spanish name for the EU GDPR. Your medical information is only seen by the doctor assessing your case, is handled according to data-protection obligations that apply to medical data specifically, and is never shared with third parties or used for marketing.

Yes. In everyday English, "medical certificate" and "doctor's note" describe the same kind of document, and we use both terms for Spain. Whichever term the person or institution asking for one uses, our certificate is reviewed by a doctor and designed to meet that request.
