Belgium has historically applied somewhat different absence and notification treatment to blue-collar workers (ouvrier in French, arbeider in Dutch) and white-collar workers (employé in French, bediende in Dutch), and a 2014 harmonisation reform (Belgium's single-status law), now just over a decade in force, has narrowed a number of these differences.
