Yes — a registered doctor can review your case online and issue a medical certificate for Ungheni, usually the same day, for a flat €34.99. Use it as supporting documentation with employers on either side of the Prut, plus schools, insurers, clubs and airlines. It is not the certificat de concediu medical: since March 2026 that document is digital only, issued solely by a doctor inside the Moldovan system, with the data passed automatically to CNAS.

Medical Certificates in Ungheni: Who Needs Them?

Ungheni sits directly on the Romanian border on the river Prut, 106 km from Chișinău but only 47 km from Iași, and the border defines its economy. The Eiffel Bridge over the Prut is the crossing point between Ungheni in Moldova and Ungheni in Romania, and the Ungheni–Cristești railway customs point puts Iași just 17 km away by rail. The Ungheni-Business Free Economic Zone, created in 2002 for a 42-year term and located in the industrial area in the north-west of the city, anchors local manufacturing and light industry, with freight forwarding, customs agency and logistics work built around the crossing itself. Shift-based industrial and logistics employers are the most exacting on absence documentation.

Healthcare for the district comes from Spitalul Raional Ungheni on National Street, a public district hospital founded in 2003 with 305 beds and around 530 staff, offering emergency care, specialised outpatient services and departments including paediatrics, surgery and intensive care. Primary care runs through family doctors inside the CNAM mandatory health insurance system. The national workforce problem is the binding constraint: after sustained emigration of doctors and nurses, only around one in three medical graduates continues to work in the Moldovan system, and access outside the capital has thinned accordingly.

What makes Ungheni distinctive is the documentation mismatch a border creates. Residents working in Iași or elsewhere in Romania find that a Moldovan statutory certificate is of no use to a Romanian employer, who cannot retrieve it and is not part of the Moldovan system. Freight drivers, customs agents and logistics staff cross the border as part of their working day and fall ill on either side of it. Moldova is not an EU member state, which means travel, residence and work-permit files routinely require a general medical statement from a registered doctor as supporting paperwork.

Locally, the commute and the calendar both matter. Villages across the Ungheni district travel into the city for appointments and hospital care, while others commute out toward Chișinău or across the border. Freight and customs work follows traffic peaks rather than clinic hours, so a mid-morning appointment is frequently impossible. Winter brings the respiratory peak against the longest family-doctor lists; spring and summer bring travel and permit documentation, plus agricultural hiring across the district and its associated general fitness requests.

To be precise about what we issue: a registered doctor's written assessment of your case, as a signed PDF, to be used as supporting documentation with an employer on either side of the border, a school, an insurer, an airline, a club or a consulate. It is not the certificat de concediu medical, nothing is registered in the state portal and no notification reaches CNAS or your employer, and it does not by itself start statutory sick pay. Only a doctor inside the Moldovan system can issue that.

On the Romanian border

The Eiffel Bridge crossing links Ungheni to Romania, and the Ungheni–Cristești railway point puts Iași just 17 km away.

Ungheni-Business Free Zone

Created in 2002 for 42 years, it anchors manufacturing and light industry in the north-west industrial area of the city.

Spitalul Raional Ungheni

A 305-bed district hospital with around 530 staff on National Street, covering emergency, outpatient, surgical and intensive care.

Cross-border working

Residents employed in Iași and elsewhere in Romania cannot use a Moldovan statutory certificate, since a foreign employer cannot retrieve it.

All Certificate Types Available in Moldova

Every certificate type is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Moldova. Choose the one that matches your situation, and if you're unsure, the assessment itself will ask enough questions to point you to the right type before you pay anything.

How It Works in Ungheni

  1. Complete assessment

3-5 minutes. Select your certificate type, confirm Moldova as your country, and answer relevant health questions covering your condition, the dates you need covered, and any employer or institution details you'd like included. No payment yet. You're only charged if a certificate is issued.

  2. Doctor reviews your case

Reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Moldova, generally during business hours (9am-6pm EET/EEST, Monday-Friday). The doctor may request more information through the same portal, or in some cases advise that your situation needs an in-person examination rather than an online certificate.

  3. Receive your PDF

Delivered the same day the doctor approves your case, as a PDF with the reviewing doctor's details and a verification reference your employer, school, or institution can scan to confirm authenticity directly.

Who Accepts a Medical Certificate in Ungheni

Who asks for written medical documentation in Ungheni and across the Prut.

Free-zone and industrial employers

Manufacturing and light-industry employers in the Ungheni-Business zone expect a dated document naming the doctor and the period assessed.

Freight, customs and logistics

Operators working the border crossing run shift and traffic-driven patterns, and require absences to be evidenced in writing quickly.

Romanian and EU employers

Cross-border workers generally need an English-language certificate from a registered doctor, not a Moldovan national form.

Consulates and permit files

Because Moldova is not an EU member state, general medical statements are routine in travel, residence and work-permit applications.

Schools and colleges

Local schools and vocational colleges require written medical evidence to excuse an extended absence or a missed assessment.

Typical private consultation costs are a general range reported for Moldova and vary by clinic and location.

Our price sits above the typical private consultation range in Moldova for some certificate types, which reflects the doctor's review time, the certificate itself, and the certificate verification system, rather than a like-for-like comparison with a routine local consultation. For sick leave, general medical, and return-to-work certificates the gap is narrower, and pricing here follows the same scale used across our other Euro-priced countries.

We think it's more useful to be upfront about this gap than to disguise it: if your priority is the lowest possible cost and a routine local consultation would meet your need, that may be the better route for you. Our service is built for situations where a same-day, doctor-reviewed private document with certificate verification is what you specifically need, which is a different job than a routine in-person visit is doing.

Prices for every certificate type are shown upfront before you start the assessment, and you are only charged once a doctor has actually reviewed and approved your case, not at the point of submitting your answers. Seeing the price and the local comparison side by side before you commit is, in our view, more useful than a lower headline number that hides how it compares to what's available locally.

Our Moldova Medical Team

Every Moldova certificate is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Moldova. A clinician will only issue a certificate after genuinely assessing your case, based on the health information you provide and, where needed, follow-up questions asked through the same portal.

Registered practitioners, not a call centre.

Every doctor is independently verified against their national medical council before they see a single patient - including for patients in Ungheni.

Frequently Asked Questions

€34.99 as a flat base price for any of the six certificate types. There is no assessment fee on top, no document charge, and no surcharge for a same-day decision.

In most cases, yes. You submit the online assessment, a registered doctor reviews it, and the signed PDF is emailed on approval. A follow-up question from the doctor is the usual reason a decision moves into the next working day.

Yes — a registered doctor can assess you remotely and document their opinion regardless of which side of the Prut you happen to be on. What each recipient will accept differs between Moldovan and Romanian employers, so ask them first. Anything needing examination will be referred rather than certified.

No. The statutory digital certificate is registered inside the national system by a family doctor or specialist, the employer is notified automatically and the data goes to CNAS. Ours does none of that and does not start statutory sick pay — you receive the PDF and hand it on yourself.

Whatever your Romanian employer requires, and that is usually not a Moldovan statutory certificate, which they cannot access. Many cross-border workers need an English-language document from a registered doctor as supporting evidence. Get the employer's requirement in writing first, including their notification deadline, because Romanian rules are their own.

Then comply with what they do require, even if that means being seen in Romania — an employment contract binds you whatever any provider offers. We will not claim cross-border acceptance is guaranteed, because it is not. Our certificate is genuinely useful as supporting evidence, and it is honest to say that is all it is.

For general employment purposes, yes, at €34.99. Professional driving is different: medical fitness to drive commercially is governed by national rules requiring examination, including vision testing, by an authorised examiner, and no remote assessment can substitute for that. If your employer means the statutory driver medical, ours will not do.

Often yes, since Moldova is not an EU member state and permit files commonly require a general medical statement from a registered doctor. Requirements vary sharply by destination, and some consulates demand examination findings or specific tests that a remote assessment cannot supply. Send us the exact requirement and we will tell you honestly whether it can be met.

Yes, submissions are accepted at any hour because nothing depends on a clinic or health centre being open. A registered doctor reviews the case when it is picked up, so overnight submissions are normally handled in the following working period. Anything urgent needs emergency care instead.

The certificate is issued in English, which suits foreign employers, airlines and consulates. If a Moldovan recipient specifically requires Romanian-language documentation, check that with them before applying — for some organisations it makes no difference, and for others it does.
