Yes — you can get a medical certificate in Novi Sad online today. A registered doctor assesses your case and issues a same-day PDF for €34.99, for sick leave, sports fitness, general fitness, fit to fly, return to work or general medical purposes. It is supporting documentation only: a statutory bolovanje in Serbia must be opened by your izabrani lekar and reaches your employer through the RFZO eBolovanje platform.

Medical Certificates in Novi Sad: Who Needs Them?
Novi Sad is Serbia's second city and, in certificate terms, its most student-heavy one. The University of Novi Sad enrolled 48,180 students with 4,017 academic staff in 2025-26, making it the country's second largest university and one of the biggest research centres in South East Europe. Faculties ask for medical documentation when a student defers an exam, misses a mandatory practical or needs to justify absence from a laboratory block — and unlike an employer, a student office usually wants the paperwork before the exam period closes, not afterwards.
The city's employer base is unusual for Serbia. NIS a.d. Novi Sad, one of the largest vertically integrated energy companies in South East Europe with a retail network of more than 400 filling stations, is headquartered here, and the Vojvodina ICT cluster has built a substantial software and outsourcing workforce around it. Between the energy sector's shift patterns and the IT sector's foreign client base, a large share of local workers needs documentation that is either available outside clinic hours or written in English — and often both.
Public healthcare capacity in Novi Sad is concentrated in the University Clinical Centre of Vojvodina, the tertiary referral centre for the whole province and the main teaching base of the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Medicine. That makes it excellent for serious illness and a poor fit for a routine note. Serbia's wider staffing problem applies here too: with roughly 600 doctors leaving the country every year and a national shortfall estimated at over 1,000 doctors, the scarce resource in primary care is appointment slots, not expertise.
Commuting patterns push people online. Since 2022 the Soko high-speed service has connected Novi Sad to Belgrade in 36 minutes, and New Belgrade station is used daily by Novi Sad commuters; since October 2025 the same 200 km/h corridor has run north to Subotica. A lot of Novi Sad residents therefore work in one city and are registered with a doctor in another, which makes an in-person appointment an expensive way to obtain a piece of paper.
Seasonal demand is real and sharply peaked. Novi Sad hosts EXIT festival at Petrovaradin Fortress every summer, along with a dense calendar of sport and cultural events on both banks of the Danube, and the hospitality and events workforce that staffs them is largely temporary. Short-term and agency staff typically do not have a settled relationship with an izabrani lekar, so when they need a fitness assessment, a return-to-work note or documentation for a missed shift, a private online route is often the only practical one.

36 Minutes to Belgrade
The Soko high-speed service puts Belgrade 36 minutes away, so many residents work in one city and are registered with a doctor in another.

Who Accepts a Medical Certificate in Novi Sad
Where an independent doctor's report does the job in Novi Sad, and where you will need the Serbian health system instead.
University of Novi Sad Faculties
Faculties of the University of Novi Sad generally accept a registered doctor's report supporting a deferred exam or missed practical. Submit it through your faculty's own student office procedure.
ICT and Outsourcing Employers
Vojvodina's software and outsourcing employers work in English for foreign clients and routinely accept an English-language doctor's report for internal absence records and return-to-work sign-off.
Energy and Shift Employers
Shift-based employers in the energy and utilities sector need return-to-work documentation before a worker goes back onto a rota. Our Return to Work certificate is written for that purpose.
Event and Hospitality Operators
Festival, venue and hospitality operators staffing the summer season accept an independent doctor's assessment for temporary and agency staff who are not registered with a local izabrani lekar.
Sports Clubs and Recreation Centres
Rowing, football, swimming and fitness clubs around the Danube ask for a fitness assessment before recreational participation. Our Sports Fitness and General Fitness certificates cover that.
Not Accepted for RFZO Sick Pay
For paid statutory sick leave, medical commission review beyond 30 days, or a work-injury claim, the document has to come from inside the Serbian system. We will tell you when that is the case.
Serbia Pricing: All Certificate Types
| Certificate Type | Our Price | Typical Private Consultation |
|---|---|---|
| Sick Leave Certificate | €34.99 | €50-€120 |
| Sports Fitness Certificate | €34.99 | €50-€120 |
| General Fitness Certificate | €34.99 | €50-€120 |
| Fit to Fly Certificate | €34.99 | €50-€120 |
| Return to Work Certificate | €34.99 | €50-€120 |
| General Medical Certificate | €34.99 | €50-€120 |
Typical private consultation costs are a general range reported for Serbia and vary by clinic, city, and provider.
The difference generally reflects overhead: an in-person consultation carries clinic, receptionist, and travel time that an online assessment does not. You are paying for the doctor's review and the certificate itself, with same-day delivery in most cases and no need to take time off to sit in a waiting room. Sports fitness and fit-to-fly certificates are the same price as a general medical certificate, even though they generally involve a more detailed assessment of a specific activity or procedure.
Serbia Legal Snapshot: What Applies in Novi Sad
Sick-leave and certificate rules are set nationally, so what follows applies in Novi Sad exactly as it does anywhere else in Serbia.
Yes — you can get a medical certificate (doctor's note) in Serbia online, reviewed by a registered doctor and usually issued the same day, from €34.99. In Serbia, sick leave from work is generally supported by a doznaka, the document a doctor issues to confirm bolovanje (sick leave), generally processed through RFZO. For sport, gym, travel, or general purposes such as visas or insurance, a separate certificate type applies: see the options below to find the one that matches your situation. Each type is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Serbia, so the right starting point depends on who is asking for the certificate and why. In everyday English this is often just called a doctor's note for Serbia, even where the official local term differs.
| Local document name | Doznaka: the sick-leave confirmation document a doctor issues to support an absence from work. Bolovanje is the general Serbian term for sick leave itself, rather than the document. |
|---|---|
| When it's typically needed | Generally, an absence from work due to illness is supported by a doctor's certificate confirming the condition and the period involved, though exact timing and internal employer steps can vary by workplace. |
| Who can typically issue it | Generally a licensed physician within Serbia's public or private healthcare system, following a genuine clinical assessment of the case. |
| Notifying your employer | Generally, employees are expected to inform their employer of a sickness absence as soon as reasonably possible, with the doznaka following once a doctor has completed their assessment. The exact internal process can vary by workplace, so it's worth confirming what yours expects. |
| Typical certified period | A doctor certifies the period their assessment genuinely supports, which can range from a single day to a longer period for more serious conditions, rather than a fixed number of days agreed in advance. |
| Governing framework | Generally administered through RFZO (Republički fond za zdravstveno osiguranje), Serbia's Republic Health Insurance Fund, which oversees sick-pay and absence-related processes. |
| Data protection law | Serbia's Law on Personal Data Protection (Zakon o zaštiti podataka o ličnosti), broadly aligned with EU GDPR principles. |
Note on employer vs RFZO process: A doctor's certificate can support your conversation with your employer about a bolovanje absence, but reimbursement or administration through RFZO specifically can involve separate steps. If your situation is unusual or time-sensitive, confirm the current process directly with RFZO or a qualified local adviser before relying on it for a specific case.
Our Medical Team for Serbia
Every certificate issued for Serbia is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Serbia, based on a genuine clinical assessment of the health information you provide and, where needed, follow-up questions asked through the same online portal. If a certificate is not clinically appropriate, for example, if your case needs an in-person examination or further investigation, the doctor will decline to issue one, and you receive a full, automatic refund. We do not operate on a pay-first, questions-later basis: no certificate is guaranteed simply because a request was submitted, and the assessment is treated the same way a genuine in-person consultation would be.
Doctor credentials are shown on your certificate, and the reference number lets anyone checking it verify the certificate directly rather than relying on our word for it. If you ever have a concern about the assessment you received, our complaints process sits alongside, not instead of, your right to raise it through the appropriate channel for a doctor practising in Serbia. We would always prefer to resolve a concern ourselves first, but we won't suggest that using our service replaces a doctor's normal professional accountability, and we won't discourage you from pursuing that route if you feel it's necessary.
Registered practitioners, not a call centre.
Every doctor is independently verified against their national medical council before they see a single patient - including for patients in Novi Sad.

One flat price of €34.99 for any of the six certificate types. Nothing is added for the doctor's time, the PDF or email delivery, and there is no membership to join.
Submissions are reviewed around the clock, and most cases — including evening ones — get a decision the same day. You will be told if the doctor needs more information, which adds time but avoids a rejected or unusable document.
Yes. Every case is reviewed by a doctor registered with the UK General Medical Council, and the certificate carries their name and registration details so a recipient can verify them independently. Our clinical content is reviewed by Dr. Anjum Ilahi (MBBS, MS) GMC · Cardiology and MRCPI.
No. The doznaka and the certificate of temporary incapacity for work are documents of the Serbian health insurance system, issued by your izabrani lekar and — since 1 January 2026 — delivered to your employer electronically through eBolovanje – Poslodavac. We cannot issue, file or transmit them, and we do not claim to. Ours is an independent report that sits alongside, never in place of, that route.
For statutory paid sick leave, yes. For an internal absence record, an unpaid day, a return-to-work clearance or a discretionary HR policy, they are usually applying a rule that does not exist. It is worth asking them in writing which of the two they mean, because the answer decides which document you actually need.
Yes. Our General Fitness assessment covers recreational activity — gym membership, club sign-up, swimming, rowing and similar — and the doctor documents whether there is anything that would make normal recreational exercise unsafe. Competitive licensing through a national federation can require a sport-specific in-person examination, which we cannot substitute for.
Yes, and this is one of the clearest cases for using us. Because our assessment does not depend on being registered in the Serbian primary care network, seasonal and agency staff can get documented within hours. Be aware that the same fact means it will not unlock statutory sick pay.
For an absence or deferral, yes — a registered doctor's report is normally accepted as supporting evidence. If the faculty requires a specific occupational-health or immunisation clearance before a clinical placement, that is a defined examination you will have to do in person.
No. The whole process is remote: questionnaire, doctor review, PDF by email. The Clinical Centre is where you should go for acute or serious symptoms, and if your answers suggest that, our doctor will tell you to seek in-person care rather than issue a certificate.
No. A work-related injury in Serbia is handled inside the health insurance and occupational safety framework, with different documentation and different pay rules, and it needs in-person examination and reporting. In that situation we decline and point you to your izabrani lekar and your employer's safety officer.
