Getting a Medical Certificate in Zaragoza

Zaragoza is Aragón's capital and one of Spain's major logistics hubs, sitting almost exactly halfway between Madrid and Barcelona on the country's main road and rail links. That position has drawn a substantial logistics, distribution and manufacturing employer base to the city, alongside a solid public sector and services economy.

Zaragoza is also a significant university city, and illness affecting exams, coursework or a placement is generally handled through each faculty's own process, with its own evidence requirements — worth checking before requesting anything. For those commuting in from across Aragón, the practical obstacle to getting documentation for a short illness is often the journey itself rather than the underlying rules, which are the same everywhere in Spain.

Zaragoza has no clinic of ours to walk into: your case is reviewed entirely online by a doctor registered to assess cases in Spain, wherever in the country you happen to be. That is the whole point — you don't need to be well enough to cross Zaragoza to a waiting room, or to catch an appointment slot, to have a doctor look at your case.

Zaragoza’s industrial employers work round the clock, which is the single biggest driver of documentation demand here. The Stellantis plant at Figueruelas is the largest industrial facility in Aragón with roughly 4,200 direct workers, recruits across morning, afternoon and night shifts, and is mid-way through retooling to build electric vehicles on the STLA Small platform from 2026. BSH Electrodomésticos is headquartered in the city with around 4,000 employees across its Spanish operations. PLAZA, the logistics platform on the city’s edge, hosts more than 600 companies and some 16,000 workers, including Inditex, Porcelanosa, DHL, DB Schenker and Decathlon. Three-shift manufacturing and warehouse rotas mean absences are frequently reported at hours when no health centre is open, and large sites almost always have a written procedure specifying how fast you must notify and where documentation goes.

On access, Aragón sits in the middle of the national spread rather than at either end. The 2025 Barómetro Sanitario recorded an 8.85-day national average wait for a médico de familia appointment, with just over 40% of people waiting eight days or more and only about a fifth seen the same or next day; an earlier OCU survey found barely a quarter of appointments nationwide, 27%, meeting the 48-hour target the system sets itself. In a province where a large share of the workforce commutes in from smaller towns across Aragón, the practical problem is often compounded: a few days’ wait plus a journey to reach the appointment. Neither of those is a clinical obstacle, which is what makes a remote assessment a sensible route to a document — though not to treatment.

A national logistics hub

Halfway between Madrid and Barcelona, with a large distribution and manufacturing employer base. Shift-based workplaces usually have a written absence procedure — check what yours says.

A significant university city

Illness affecting exams, coursework or a placement is generally handled through a formal faculty process, with its own evidence requirements.

Club and school sport

Sports clubs across Zaragoza commonly ask for medical clearance before participation, particularly for organised and contact sport. The club or federation sets the requirement.

A wide regional catchment

People travel into Zaragoza from across Aragón for work. When the journey is the obstacle rather than the assessment, an online review is a reasonable route.

All Certificate Types Available in Spain

Every certificate type is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Spain. Choose the one that matches your situation, and see the legal snapshot above if what you actually need is the formal parte de baja for a longer absence.

How It Works in Zaragoza

  1. Complete assessment

3-5 minutes. Select your certificate type, confirm Spain as your country, and answer relevant health questions in detail so the reviewing doctor has what they need to make a genuine clinical judgment. No payment is taken at this stage.

  2. A doctor registered to assess Spain cases reviews

Your answers are reviewed against Spanish requirements during business hours, Monday-Friday. The doctor may come back to you for more information before deciding, and will only proceed with a certificate if it is clinically appropriate to do so.

  3. Receive your PDF

Once approved, your certificate is emailed the same day for most requests, showing the reviewing doctor's credentials and a verification reference that lets the recipient confirm the document is genuine.

Who Asks for a Medical Certificate in Zaragoza

Zaragoza employers

Useful as general medical documentation for an absence or a workplace request. Acceptance depends on what your employer is actually asking for, and for statutory sick leave beyond a few days in Spain a parte de baja from the public health system applies — see the national rules above for the full picture.

Universities and colleges

Commonly used as supporting documentation in a mitigating or extenuating circumstances application. Each institution sets its own evidence requirements, so check the specific wording your faculty uses.

Clubs and gyms

Sports clubs and gyms in Zaragoza frequently ask for medical clearance before participation, particularly for organised or contact sport. Gyms may ask for a health declaration at sign-up.

Insurers and public bodies

General medical certificates for insurance claims and other administrative matters. What these generally want to see is that a genuine medical assessment took place, rather than a particular document format.

€40-70 is a typical range reported for a private, in-person doctor consultation in Spain and varies by clinic, location, and consultation type. It doesn't include the time cost of travelling to and from an appointment, or the wait for a slot to become available, both of which our online review is designed to remove without cutting corners on the actual clinical assessment.

Our Medical Team for Spain

Every Spain certificate is reviewed by a doctor registered to assess cases in Spain. A clinician will only issue a certificate after genuinely assessing your case and if it is clinically appropriate to do so. If it isn't, you receive a full refund rather than a certificate you can't rely on. We do not name individual clinicians on this page because the specific doctor assigned to review your case depends on availability and certificate type at the time you submit your assessment; your certificate itself shows the reviewing doctor's name and credentials once issued, so the recipient can see exactly who assessed your case. No certificate is generated automatically or without a doctor's genuine review, whatever the certificate type.

Registered practitioners, not a call centre.

Every doctor is independently verified against their national medical council before they see a single patient - including for patients in Zaragoza.

Medical Certificates in Zaragoza: Common Questions

No. The assessment is completed online by a doctor registered to assess cases in Spain, so where you are in the country makes no difference to the process or the price. This page exists because people search for their own city.

It depends on the length of the absence. Short absences of up to three days can often be self-managed without a formal parte de baja, and our certificate can support that kind of short, informal documentation. For longer statutory sick leave in Spain, a parte de baja can by law only be issued through the public health system (Seguridad Social) or an authorised equivalent — it is not something we or any private online service can issue. See the national rules section above for the full picture.

Our certificate is €34.99 flat, including the doctor's review, the PDF and its verification reference. A private consultation in Spain commonly falls in the €50-€120 range depending on the clinic and how quickly you need to be seen. It is not a substitute for care — if you need to be examined or treated, see a doctor in person.

Not to the certificate. It is issued against national requirements and is not tied to a province. If your employer is in Zaragoza and you live elsewhere in Aragón, the same rules apply either way.

Usually within a few hours of the doctor approving your case during business hours. Some cases take longer where the doctor needs more information before deciding.

You can submit at any hour, and night-shift workers do. The review itself happens when a doctor picks the case up, and submissions lodged inside business hours are the ones most likely to be decided the same day, so a case sent at 3am will typically be reviewed that morning rather than immediately. Deal with your site’s notification requirement separately and first: large plants here generally specify a window for reporting an absence, and meeting that is a distinct obligation from producing documentation afterwards. Put your next shift date in the submission if it creates a deadline.

We cannot answer for any of the 600-plus companies operating there, and you should be suspicious of any service that claims to. What is true is that large logistics and distribution operations of that kind almost always have a written absence policy stating what they require, which makes this checkable rather than a guess — ask for that policy or the relevant page of your staff handbook. If it names a parte de baja, that document comes through the public health system and a private certificate does not substitute for it. If it simply asks for medical documentation of the absence, our Sick Leave certificate is designed for that.

No. The doctor is registered to assess cases in Spain, and a certificate is not tied to the province or comunidad where it was issued — there is no requirement that the reviewing doctor belong to the Zaragoza or Aragón medical college for the document to stand. What can vary is the institution reading it: a particular employer, faculty or federation may have its own preferences about where documentation comes from, and those preferences are theirs to state. If someone tells you a certificate is invalid because the doctor is not local, ask them to put the requirement in writing, because it is worth seeing exactly what they are asking for.

For a Spanish driving licence, no, and this is an important limit. The medical report for issuing or renewing a driving licence has to be done at an authorised driver assessment centre, a Centro de Reconocimiento de Conductores, which carries out its own tests in person; nothing we issue replaces that. Similarly, fitness for operating specific machinery at work falls under your employer’s occupational health surveillance obligations and is assessed by their servicio de prevención. General Fitness is a broader statement of fitness following a medical assessment, useful where an employer or organiser has asked for general clearance rather than one of those regulated assessments.

General Medical is usually the right fit: it is a statement based on a medical assessment, which is generally what an insurer or administrative file is after, rather than documentation of a specific work absence. Read the claim requirements before ordering, though. Insurers set their own evidence rules and some name a specific document, require a particular form completed, or insist on assessment by a doctor they appoint — and where they do, a general certificate will not satisfy it. Tell us who the document is for when you submit so the wording can be matched to what they have asked for.
